CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Lauren Hargrove has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The Richmond, Va., native was lights out at goalkeeper this week for the Hokies as she posted two shutouts.
She recorded six saves in the Hokies’ 2-0 win at No. 7 Notre Dame – the first Top 10 road win for Tech since 2012. It was the third straight shutout for the Hokies and the 10th of the season. Entering the match, Notre Dame had the seventh-best scoring offense in the nation.
Hargrove also led the Hokies to a shutout draw at NC State.
She finished the week with a 1.000 save percentage, a 0.00 GAA and seven saves over two shutouts.
No stranger to weekly recognition, Hargrove also won ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 after posting 13 saves and a shutout over two games.
Hargrove is the first Hokie to win ACC Defensive Player of the week twice in a single season since Mandy Haught in 2019.
No. 19 Virginia Tech (11-3-3, 6-1-2 ACC) hosts its final match of the season against No. 24 Virginia (11-5, 4-5 ACC) at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 at Thompson Field. The game will be televised on ACCN.
