BLACKSBURG – After concluding the regular season in the win column, Virginia Tech football met with the media on Saturday night. Head coach Brent Pry stepped to the podium to discuss the 37-17 victory against Virginia during Senior Night. Graduate student Jaylin Lane spoke after Pry to conclude the media session. Read and watch below to see what they had to say:

Head coach Brent Pry

Opening Statement:
"Really excited about the victory tonight. So happy for our football team. A resilient bunch that has battled each and every week and hasn't come out on top of it as much as we would have liked. But to get this win, to keep that Commonwealth Cup here in Blacksburg. To get bowl eligible in back-to-back years. Another sellout crowd. They didn't let the weather bother them. It was awesome to see everybody out there. I know we'll travel well, we'll be an attractive choice. Go back bowling, and get these extra practices. I really want to give a special shoutout to our seniors. You talk about a group that a lot of these guys went through COVID, went through a coaching change. Some of them transferred in just a lot, ups and downs. And as I mentioned, resilient and close, great brotherhood. To come out here tonight and perform the way they did, they stepped up. We had a third-team quarterback leading the charge. And I thought the way the defense, the rest of the guys on offense, and the kicking game stepped up to compliment what Pop Watson did tonight. So it was a good night for Hokie Nation."

On the development and trajectory of the program:
"Yeah, without a doubt. We're a better team. There's plenty of growth and development. We have so many first and second-year players that are making strides. That's why I think this bowl prep is going to be really important for a bunch of them. We're going to lose some old guys who have certainly made a lot of plays around here, but we've got a good group coming. We're very competitive in practice against one another, and I think it showed up each and every week. We're a resilient bunch, a very coachable bunch. They've stuck together. They didn't point fingers. A lot of good signs, a lot of good things that, to me, are important in building a foundation in a team that can sustain some success and remain humble and hungry and keep growing and pushing the thing forward."

Wide Receiver Jaylin Lane

On beating Virginia in back-to-back seasons:
"It means a lot, obviously. You know, this rivalry it runs deep. One of the longest rivalries in college football. And us knowing that we hold the weight of a lot of alumni who are betting on us to win this game. And, you know, a lot of fans who need us to win this game. So, you know, it feels great to beat UVA."
