BLACKSBURG – Through eleven games this season, forward Rose Micheaux has been a key contributor to the success of the Hokies women’s basketball team. The senior, who has helped the Hokies to an 8-3 start in Head Coach Megan Duffy’s inaugural season, uses a combo of strength and finesse to make baskets fall and dominate on the glass. Micheaux continues to excel on the hardwood and will have the chance to do so again when Tech welcomes Campbell on Saturday, Dec. 21 at noon ET with live coverage on ACC Network Extra.
Micheaux started her collegiate basketball journey suiting up for Minnesota, shooting a combined 55.1% from the field in two years with the Golden Gophers. After entering the transfer portal following her sophomore year, where she averaged a conference fourth-highest 7.9 rebounds per game and earned Honorable Mention All Big-Ten recognition, the Wayne, Michigan native brought her talents to Blacksburg.
Micheaux averaged 12.5 minutes in her junior season, posting 4.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 23 appearances. The then-junior would serve yet again at the forward position, securing rebounds and facilitating the offense when necessary.
When asked for a word to describe the upcoming season at ACC Tip-Off in October, Micheaux used growth as both a mindset and an end goal. “I feel like we’re really hitting the nail on the head with our core values and showing that this is really going to be the reason why we’re going to be successful this year,” said Micheaux.
In competition this fall, the senior has grown in nearly every statistical category. The senior, who is shooting 56.6% from the field, is currently averaging 12 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Her 6-foot-2 frame has come in handy for the Hokies, as the Michigan native also has six blocks on the year. Micheaux’s versatility both as an offensive powerhouse and defensive cornerstone has been vital in leading the team to its impressive start.
Micheaux’s impressive start to the season was accentuated against Elon on Nov. 23. Posting 19 points, 14 rebounds, and a career-high 10 assists in 32 minutes, Micheaux etched her name in the history books as just the second Hokie in program history to record a triple-double. It was a feat that, while impressive, was the culmination of Micheaux’s effort for head coach Megan Duffy.
