Duo helped Tech knock off Virginia in regular season finale

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Virginia Tech quarterback William "Pop" Watson III and kicker John Love have earned ACC Player of the Week honors for their efforts in a 37-17 win over Virginia Saturday.

Watson (5-11, 190) has been named the conference Rookie of the Week after making his first career start and accounting for 302 yards of offense and two touchdowns. The redshirt freshman completed 14 of his 21 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 48 yards and another score. His 66-yard scoring strike to Jaylin Lane was Tech's longest pass play of the season.

Love (5-11, 180) connected on all three of his field goal attempts from 44, 31 and 28 yards. The Spartanburg, South Carolina product was also a perfect 4-for-4 on PATs for a total of 13 points.

The Hokies knocked off their in-state rivals for the 23rd time in the last 25 meetings and clinched the 36th bowl game appearance in school history.
