BLACKSBURG – For a second match in a row, the Hokies threw up a shutout win, defeating Davidson 7-0.
This victory marks a fourth-consecutive win for Tech, leading to an unbeaten weekend at home.
In doubles on Court No. 3, Patrik Jurina and Ilyas Fahim combined for a 6-3 triumph. Scores on Courts No. 1 and 2 were narrow, but Matt Harper and Alberto Orso teamed up to give Tech the first point of the match, winning in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4).
After battling out a close doubles point, the Hokies breezed through the rest of singles. Diego Cueto was victorious in the first completed singles match, outlasting Davidson 6-1, 6-2. Tech had success on all six courts, with Fahim securing the winning match 6-0, 6-4.
Freshmen Jurina and Eyal Shumilov also contributed to the Hokies’ advantage, with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0 wins, respectively.
Matt Harper and Alberto Orso took their success in doubles into singles. Harper walked away with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph. Orso closed out the match for the Hokies, winning 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 7-5.
The Hokies remain home in Blacksburg next Friday, Feb. 7, for an in-state matchup against Old Dominion at 5 p.m.
