Throwers accumulate success at the Hurricane Invitational to open outdoor season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Virginia Tech track & field throws event squad traveled to Coral Gables for the 2025 Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Miami, to open the outdoor competition slate.

Lukas Baroke made his 2025 debut in the hammer throw, finishing third overall in a field of 10, with a distance of 64.02m (210'0").  Baroke owns a career-best mark of 64.68m (212'2") in the hammer, and has now thrown over 64m three times in his two year career.

In her Virginia Tech debut, Mariana Pestana threw for 62.99m (206'8") in the hammer throw, a mark that landed her No. 8 all-time for Virginia Tech.  Pestana finished third overall in a field of 11.

Vlad Puchko captured the event win in the discus in his 2025 debut, reaching a distance of 55.73m (182'10").  

Katie Seyfang also captured her first event win of the season, throwing for 16.15m, an outdoor personal-best, in the shot put.  Seyfang now stands at No. 7 all-time in the event for Virginia Tech with the 16.15m mark.
