Virginia Tech women’s soccer has signed Chase Rooney to the 2025 recruiting class. Rooney, a goalkeeper from Manassas, Va., played club soccer with Virginia Development Academy. At the high school level, Rooney was a two-time District Player of the Year, State Goalkeeper of the Year, as well as a Class 6A State Champion with Colgan High School.

“We’re excited to add Chase to our program," head coach Chugger Adair said. "She is a quality goalkeeper with wonderful presence, great size and a wonderful ability to deal with crosses and shots. We are looking forward to her impact with our group.”

Why did you choose Virginia Tech? I chose Virginia Tech because I love the campus and the academics are amazing. The team is a close-knit family and they push each other. Going to Tech allows me to stay in my home state, and my family to come watch me play.

What was your favorite thing about your visit? My favorite part of visiting was getting to live the life of a student and connect with the freshmen ahead of us. They were so cool, and it made me even more excited to come to Tech.

What excites you the most about being part of Virginia Tech women’s soccer? I am very excited to play with my former teammates and my friends. I can’t wait to learn from talented players and see how much I can grow under my coaches. I am so excited to play for the Hokie fan base!

What are your soccer strengths? My greatest strength is my height. Being 6-4, it’s a lot easier for me to get high crosses and shots around the top of the net. I use my height to my advantage often. Growing up playing football with my dad and brothers has taught me to catch with my hands very well.

Who is your favorite pro player and why? My favorite pro player is Manuel Neuer. I love his play style, and he was one of the first players I watched as a kid. He reads his opponents very well and has great positioning, which I try to model my play style after.

What do you plan on majoring in? I plan on majoring in criminology.

What is one thing you want Virginia Tech fans to know about you? I have been playing soccer since I was 3. I started as a striker until I was 13, then I split between goalkeeper and defense before switching to goalkeeper full-time.
