Tech falls at No. 3 Stanford on Thursday

STANFORD, Calif. – Virginia Tech fell to No. 3 Stanford, 5-0, on Thursday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

How It Happened
The No. 3 Cardinal struck fast as they scored twice within the first 11 minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. 

Goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove made two key saves – one in the 32nd minute and one in the final seconds of the first half – to prevent Stanford from extending its lead in the first 45. 

Stanford scored its third goal of the night in the 59th minute and quickly added another two over the next 10 minutes to extend the lead to 5-0.

• Tech allowed five goals in a game for the first time since Oct. 21, 2012, when the Hokies faced then-No. 14 Virginia
• The Hokies were shut out for just the second time this season
• Tech is now 3-1-1 in all-time matchups in California
• Stanford outshot Tech, 17-3
