CHARLOTTE – Virginia Tech freshman guard Neoklis Avdalas was recognized as both the Co-Rookie and Co-Player of the Week along with Caleb Wilson of North Carolina, the ACC announced Monday afternoon.

In the season opener, Avdalas dished out nine assists, the most in a debut for a Hokie since at least 2004. He also scored eight points in Tech’s win over Charleston Southern.

Over the weekend, he led the Hokies to a gritty 107-101 overtime victory over Providence at Mohegan Sun as he scored 33 points on the afternoon and recorded five rebounds and six assists. In the process he dropped the first 30-5-5 stat line for a Virginia Tech athlete since Keve Aluma in 2021. Avdalas became the first Hokie freshman to record 30 or more points since Landers Nolley in 2019. He owns the only 30-point game by an ACC athlete so far this season.

For the week, the Kalamata, Greece native averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and had three blocks.

Avdalas and the Hokies are back home on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum Wednesday night against Saint Joseph’s. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
