Danny White

Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Services/University Affairs

Responsibilities: Danny White was promoted to Executive Associate AD/Administration and Support Programs in fall 2023. He oversees the sport performance and student-athlete support units, including Sports Nutrition, Academic Support, and Sports Psychology. He is the sport administrator for the Football and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving programs. He works directly with the provost’s office in oversight of student-athlete academic success and in support of the SAASS academic staff and their work with all of Virginia Tech’s 22 sport teams. White also serves as the athletics representative on the University Athletics Committee.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: White began employment at Virginia Tech in 2007.

At Virginia Tech: Prior to White's current roles at Virginia Tech, he had sport oversight of the volleyball program and established the department's first Leadership Institute for student-athletes, focused on leadership development and study abroad (Dominican Republic, Switzerland and Rwanda). Previous duties include a number of areas within Student-Athlete Development, including SAAC, community outreach and career programing.

Education: White holds a PhD (Planning, Governance and Globalization) from Virginia Tech, a Master’s Degree (Education) from Virginia Tech, and a Bachelor's Degree (Finance) from the University of South Carolina.

Of Note: White is a former student-athlete and team captain at the University of South Carolina, where he competed in men’s swimming. He has served as chair of the ACC swimming and diving committee, as well as other sport committees and involvement across the university and conference. He is a Boston Marathon qualifier and was named a 2013-14 Favorite Faculty at Virginia Tech.

Personal: Danny and his wife, Meredith (Tech alum, 2006), currently reside in Blacksburg. They have five children: Addison, William, Amelia, Abigail and Owen.
