Jim Reinhard

Staff Psychiatrist

Dr. Reinhard is a double board-certified psychiatrist in both general and forensic psychiatry having completed a fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Program in Psychiatry and the Law. He received his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and did his psychiatry residency at Dartmouth Medical School. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has experience working in resident physician and medical student education, university counseling, student athlete counseling, private practice, community mental health centers, Veterans Administration hospitals, and CEO of two Virginia State Hospitals. He was appointed by two previous governors (Warner and Kaine) as Commissioner of Virginia’s public mental health system from 2002 to 2010 prior to coming to Virginia Tech in 2011.  He is the Associate Director for Psychiatry in the Cook Counseling Center and treats student-athletes in the CAMP clinic weekly.
