The Inclusion & Diversity Council is committed to fostering an environment that enhances diversity and promotes inclusion for the Virginia Tech Department of Athletics. The Diversity and Inclusion Council will foster an environment for faculty, staff, students and student-athletes which enhances diversity, promotes inclusion, and maintains a welcoming, safe, and accessible campus climate.

The council will accomplish its mission through the following ways:

• Affirm our commitment to the university’s non-discrimination policy while providing equitable participation for student-athletes and career opportunities for coaches and staff from diverse backgrounds. 
• Educate and equip coaches, student-athletes and staff with the tools necessary to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds in order to thrive within the campus and broader communities.  
• Empower student-athletes to be impactful leaders on campus and within their communities. 
• Recruit and retain diverse talent in order to strategically build diverse teams that help us create a world-class student-athlete experience.
• Engage with campus and local, regional and national communities in order to create meaningful connections.  
• Create meaningful ways to celebrate diversity.
