HEADLINES FROM LAST WEEK

Holding USC Upstate to 24 points – the fewest allowed in school history – women's basketball ran by the Spartans 79-24 and had five players score in double figures, including another double-double from Elizabeth Kitley (13 points, 10 rebounds).
 
For the second time this season, freshman Hanna Borer has been named the Co-ACC Freshman of the Week. She earns the honor after leading the Hokies with 70 assists over the weekend.

Women's basketball had three players on the John Wooden Award preseason top 50 watch list, making Tech one of only three schools to have three or more on the list. The Hokies' were Elizabeth Kitley, Ashley Owusu and Taylor Soule.

Showing their hard work off the field and in the classroom, women's soccer had five players named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, including Allie George, Lauren Hargrove, Gabby Johnson, Riley McCarthy and Averi Visage.

Wrestling freshman Caleb Henson was selected as the ACC Wrestler of the Week after his 5-3 sudden victory upset over NCAA finalist and two-time All-American, No. 2 Sammy Sasso of Ohio State.

In a first-person feature, lacrosse's Jacelyn Lazore penned an amazing piece on the history of lacrosse and how her Native American heritage plays such a crucial part to her identify within in the sport.

Four members of the men's tennis team were represented in the final fall ITA standings, heading into the spring dual season. The four Hokies were Ryan Fishback, Jordan Chrystostom, Alberto Orso and Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza.

Both the baseball and softball schedules for the 2023 seasons were announced, with what should be another promising season for both teams.

The aforementioned Kitley is off to a hot start once again for her Hokies and shares what fuels her to being the best player in the ACC.

Winning the semifinals of the Charleston Classic, forward Justyn Mutts turned in a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) to help men's basketball reach the title game.

Running back Jalen Holston had his best day yet to propel the football team to its first road victory of the season, defeating Liberty 23-22.

Swimming and diving wrapped up the Ohio State Invitational, with the men and women both placing fourth. The men finished with a score of 1,523 and the women finished with 1,281.

With five individual titles leading the way, wrestling took home the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia.
