DeVault-Smith is in his first season at Virginia Tech after spending the 2023 season as a defensive graduate assistant at UT Martin, primarily working with the defensive backs.
He joined the Skyhawks following a playing career which featured stops at Vanderbilt and Samford. During the 2022 season, he wrapped up his career by appearing in all 12 games for Samford, tallying 40 total tackles. At Vanderbilt, DeVault-Smith spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons under the tutelage of Hokies’ linebackers coach and defensive coordinator Chris Marve. In four seasons with the Commodores, he played in 32 games, recording 57 career tackles while tallying 5.0 tackles for loss and three sacks.
