Hunter Sugar

Assistant Football Equipment Manager

Hunter Sugar enters his first season at Virginia Tech as a football assistant equipment manager. In this role, he inspects and performs maintenance on equipment, while ensuring it is ready for use. He assists with the inventory, storage, and distribution of equipment and ensures proper transportation for off-site events and games. Sugar also supports practices and game-time operations, performing related duties to ensure successful game operations.

 

Sugar graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2024, where he spent three seasons assisting Nick Saban and the University of Alabama Football team as a Student Equipment Manager. During his time there, he contributed to two SEC Championships (2021 and 2023), the 2021 Cotton Bowl, the 2022 Sugar Bowl, and the 2023 Rose Bowl. Additionally, he had the opportunity to assist the Seattle Seahawks during the Senior Bowl in 2022.

Prior to attending the University of Alabama, he worked at the University of Colorado Boulder, assisting in Equipment Operations.


Sugar was raised in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, before moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to pursue his academic and athletic aspirations. While at the University of Alabama, he completed his Bachelor's degree, majoring in communications and minoring in business administration.
