Before arriving in Blacksburg, Petersheim spent the 2019 season as the volunteer assistant coach at Bucknell, where he was responsible for development of the outfielders and assisted with the hitters and baserunning.

As the graduate manager at Missouri (2018), Petersheim aided the offensive and defensive coaches during batting practice and infield/outfield drills, helping setup practice and pregame duties.

Prior to working at Mizzou, Petersheim was an assistant coach for the Hornell Dodgers in the New York Collegiate Baseball League during the summer of 2017. He was part of the staff that led the Dodgers to the NYCBL championship. The Dodgers ranked as high as No. 11 in the country for collegiate summer ball teams. The squad hit 42 home runs, while recording a league-record 200 stolen bases.

Petersheim was a four-year member of the baseball team at Lock Haven. He was a team captain during his junior and senior seasons, and as a senior he was part of a team that broke the school record for most wins in a season with 32.
